The education of Hunan

After the founding of People’s Republic of China,
especially after the reform, the Party and government pay more attention to the development of the education, and carry on the strategy of flourishing the country with technology and education, and take a series of steps to guarantee the first development of education. The education of Hunan gets rapid development.
The popularizement of nine-year compulsory education gets great development.
All level of Party committees and governments insist on putting the popularizement of nine-year compulsory educaiton and education the illiterate adults as the most improtant, and they make efforts and get decisive success. In 1998, there are 39300 primary schools in the province, the enrollment of pre-school children is of 98.68%, and there are 7693500 pupils at school. There are 3845 middle school with 1074900 enrollement. 94.85% of the pupils come to junior high school. The province always supports the education in remote area with special emotion, sepcial policy and special step. The total investment is 250,000,000 Yuan after 1990’s, and the province helps the remote place to build over 700 boarding junior high schools and primary schools and nearly 300 hoping primary schools.
Because of the efforts of the people in the province,
by 1998, all the counties, cities in the province passed the assessment of education illiterate adult, and 103 counties and cities, 12 national run farms passed the assessment of popularizement of nine-year compulsory education. The population of the area which gets to the standard of “Two basic” takes 86.53% of the population of the whole province, and that exceeds the average level of the nation.
The scale of different educaiton develop rapidly.
In 1998, there were 4532 middle schools in the province which is 16.785 times of that in 1950. The students at school is 3362300, and it is 67.395 times. It began the professional education, and there are 574 professional high schools now with 230600 students. There are 165 middle schools with 259200 students.
