摘要：自从1876年美国图书馆协会成立以来，各州级，国家级，及国际级的图书馆协会努力的为其图书馆和图书馆员作出了极大的贡献，特别是组织会议，提供专业发展机会，出版相关出版品，制定标准，并为图书馆做宣扬倡导等基本服务。本讲座将介绍几个代表性的图书馆组织及其作用，譬如美国图书馆协会，公共图书馆协会，国际图书馆协会联合会，伊利诺伊州图书馆协会，东亚图书馆协会，及美国华人图书馆协会等组织。这些组织各在其领域中有效地为它们的成员及成员馆倡导图书馆和图书馆服务的宣传活动，推动图书馆标准和提升图书馆的核心价值观，并鼓励终身学习和为专业教育等方面所作的努力。

Abstract: Since the formation of the American Library Association (ALA) in 1876, library associations at the state, national, and international level have contributed greatly to the essential services for libraries and librarians, including conferences, professional development, publications, standards, and advocacy in the field. This presentation gives an overview of various library organizations, such as the American Library Association (ALA), Public Library Association (PLA), International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA), Illinois Library Association (ILA), Council on East Asian Libraries (CEAL), and Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA). These organizations have been effective in advocating libraries and library services for their constituents, promoting standards and core values, as well as encouraging life-long learning and professional education.
